So, here I am, embarking on the grand adventure that is WSET Level 3 (find out more about the WSET Level 3...here). My exam is in April of 2025. It's a bit daunting, I won't lie. There's a mountain of information to conquer, from obscure grape varieties to the intricacies of wine production. But instead of just burying my nose in textbooks and flashcards (though those definitely have had their place recently!), I've decided to take a different approach: I'm sharing my study journey with you.
Why Write About It?
Now, you might be wondering, "Why bother writing about studying? Isn't that, like, the opposite of fun?" Well, here's the thing:
It keeps me accountable. Knowing that I'll be sharing my progress (and maybe even my struggles) with you all gives me that extra push to stay on track. Because I'll be honest, this material is dense and can become overbearing.
It forces me to make information more practical. Putting concepts into my own words helps me truly understand them, not just memorize them.
It creates a community. I'm hoping this will spark some great conversations and connect me with others who enjoy wine.
It might even help you! Whether you're considering the WSET or just curious about wine education, I hope my experiences will provide some insights and inspiration.
More Than Just Facts
Of course, I'll be covering the essential WSET material – the grape varieties, the regions, and the winemaking techniques. But I also want to go beyond the textbook and share my personal reflections, challenges, and "aha!" moments along the way.
Maybe I'll write about all of my continuous struggles with blind tasting (hey, it's challenging, ok!). Or perhaps I'll share my newfound appreciation for a grape variety or style I previously dismissed (looking at you, sweet wines). And who knows, maybe I'll even throw in a few wine-pairing mishaps for good measure.
Join the Adventure!
So, if you're interested in following along on this WSET Level 3 journey, grab a glass of your favorite wine and settle in. I promise it'll be a rollercoaster; learning, laughter, and maybe even a few spilled drops along the way.
Cheers to the adventure! 🍷Hopefully, it will make the world of wine more approachable. Let’s raise a glass to learning together!
Until next time!
Cheers,
Jake
